Weslaco High still seeking first district win

WESLACO - The Weslaco High Panthers (1-3-1, 0-2-0) came into their district 32-5A contest against Brownsville Pace in full force attacking.

Weslaco High's Wilmer Garcia scored the first goal and only goal on the night against the Vikings in the 16th minute of the first half to take a 1-0 lead. But, not for long, Vikings' Alberto Fonten scored immediately seconds later in the 16 minute to tie the contest up, 1-1.

In the second half, Vikings' Fonten who score all three goals on the night, scored a goal on a penalty kick in the 38th minute and another goal in the 16th minute.

"The guys did a good job," said Weslaco High head coach John Lopez. "Pablo (Rojas) the goalkeeper had done a good job for us. We're not disappointed. Obviously we're disappointed in the loss but overall there was a lot of effort from the kids. (Pace) is a good little ball club. We just got to re-group and not beat ourselves over. We'll get back and we should be in good shape."
